Maui! Paris! Rome! London!

Maui, Paris, Rome, London. Would it not be amazing to travel to these amazing places. Experience the beauty of these places. Taste the fine cuisine, experience the different cultures, meet new people. There's no doubt that everyone loves to travel. We all would love to travel across the oceans of the world. But can we all get there? Traveling is a very expensive hobby. Not only do you have to pay for a flight, but you also have to take into account hotel expenses, food expenses, and any other travel expenses that may come. That trip you were planning might start to look a little less beautiful now. But does it have to be that way? Can we still travel on a budget and actually still have a good time? Do we have to break the bank every time we plan a trip? Let's talk about a couple of tips to make your travel a bit more affordable!

1. Choose Your Destination Wisely

Usually, the farther you travel, the more expensive the trip is gonna be. But does that mean you can not travel at all then? No, you can still enjoy a great trip that's close to home. If your budget is a bit more flexible then look for cheap places that you can travel to via plane. If you are working with a bit of a tighter budget then why not look for beautiful places around your home country. If you live in Ontario, Canada, there are a lot of places to visit and places that are beautiful and they might only be 4-5 hours away and you can make this into a road trip! This will allow you to eliminate the expense of a plane ticket. You can still have a great experience doing something like this. You know what they say, “it's not the destination that matters but the people that you travel with that matters”.

2. Pack Light

People tend to overpack when they go on a trip. If you're going somewhere to stay for a week, do you need to pack a month's worth of clothes? Most of the time people tend to not even take out or wear half the clothes that they pack. So pack wisely. The lighter you pack, the more you can save on luggage expenses.

3. Free Activities

Anywhere you go, there is guaranteed some type of free activity you can be a part of. For example, is there a nice hiking trail near where you are staying, is there a nice landmark you can go visit? So do your research. Find some things that you can do for free and enjoy doing.

4. Walk? Bike? Taxi?

An obvious expense that you have to consider is transportation. Renting a car is a very pricey expense. But does it have to be that way? Well, you can ask yourself, do I really need to rent a car? Can I maybe just use my legs and walk everywhere? Can I maybe just manage with a bike? If I do need to go somewhere far, can I manage with an uber or taxi service? You will be surprised how much of your budget you can save by eliminating the expense of a car rental.

5. Don’t Always Eat Out

A big part of your budget is going to be food. There is no way around this. You have to eat to live after all. But there are ways to maybe save some money on food. Instead of eating out every day, why not visit local supermarkets to buy ingredients to cook your own meal. Why not look for cheap eats via street food. Street food in many countries is sometimes really affordable. You'll be surprised how much money you'll be able to save if you do not go to a fine dining restaurant every single day.
